Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy (CIT), is a minimally invasive procedure that helps improve the appearance of fine lines, enlarged pores, acne scars and overall tone and texture. Microneedling is often done in conjunction with PRP.
How does it work?
Microneedling is a controlled mechanical injury that activates the skin's repair process and stimulates collagen and elastin production. Microneedling is a procedure that consists of very fine sterile needles that repeatedly puncture the skin. Multiple sessions may be required to achieve desired results. Sessions should be done 4-6 weeks apart.
How long is the procedure?
This procedure takes about 60 minutes if a full face is being treated. Topical freezing is applied first for about 20 minutes to minimize discomfort.
Downtime
Results do vary; however, when you leave the office, you will have some redness in the face and may have minor swelling. The redness will subside each day and typically takes 2-3 days to recover fully. Bruising on bony areas of the face, such as the nose, is not uncommon. The skin may continue to peel for up to a week.
